Where to take your Flat Jack
Places Jack Loved
Jack loved all sorts of very specific places. Below is a general list of the kinds of places he went on his own or with his family and friends.
-
The boardwalk
-
New Jersey
-
Fenway Park (or a baseball stadium)
-
Amusement parks- or Great Adventure specifically
-
Aquariums and zoos- especially to learn about conservation done through their work (zoo documentaries were a favorite to watch when he was sick)
-
Great restaurants, especially those with cuisines from all over the world- Indian, Ethiopian, Thai, Phillipino, Greek, and Mexican especially. Being a Jersy guy, Italian is always welcome, and he loved his Irish heritage, so an Irish pub was always on the list. Jack was a vegetarian, so any great vegan or vegetarian place is a great option too. He loved a great soft pretzel.
-
Hikes in the wilderness, the tougher, the better. Shenandoah National Park was a particular favorite, and Jack always dreamed of walking the Appalachian Trail.
-
Thrift stores and flea markets. This was a particular favorite in his last years with Jessica- what cool, funny or useful thing could you find? How much can you save your wallet and the landfill by shopping here? What can you fix, upcycle or reuse? Both entertainment and conservation!
-
A Run- make sure you are being safe (run against traffic, wear reflectors and lights) or he would yell at you as you go by. But hed also send you a "have a good run!" as he passed you. Any length of run is good. Jack really encouraged people to do what they could, but he was a dedicated marathon runner and hoped to do a triathlon someday.
-
Ethnically specific grocery stores.
-
Any historical site or historic cemetery.
-
Anywhere with people he loved.
